New car speakers don't work?
just put in new car speakers and replaced speaker wire. Now speakers dont work. I connected the new speaker wires to exact same place old wires were to the harness. Even hooked up one of the old speakers and speaker wire to harness, still didn;t work. Stereo is getting power and is finding channels using antenna, just no sound. Hmmm.
Aiwa CDC-217 stereo-16 gauge wire- polk speakers
If you can reach the back of the stereo, try using jumper wires and connect the speaker directly to the speaker outlet of the stereo. If they work then, that would mean the problem is in the new wires (there could be a short in them). If they don't, try the old speaker again.
If that doesn't work then your problem could be the output of the old stereo. If it's the factory stereo, then it most likely wouldn't be worth trying to get it fixed. Get a new stereo.
Also try flipping the leads around at the speakers. If you ran plane (un-color coded) wire you may have twisted the leads.
Try finding the stereos (+) output wire. Hook it in the right place. Then run a short piece of wire from the (-) side of the speakers to a metal part of the cars body. If they start working then you have a grounding problem in the new wiring. From there you can just find a bolt, or screw close to the speakers and connect the speakers (-) side to it. Just make certain that the bolt or screw is going into a metal part of the cars body.
Good Luck.
Hope this helps.
