How do I get my photos back?
I took some very valuable photos this weekend using an SD card given to my by the family having the photos taken. The photos showed up when I reviewed them on the camera. However when I tried to download the photos onto the computer it said the card needed to be formatted. I thought that would delete the entire contents of the card so I DIDN'T do that. But now it won't even let me review the photos on the camera either, without the message of reformatting the card. I have never formatted the other cards I have used prior to using them. Is there ANY way to get these photos back???? This was a wedding reception and there's no retaking those moments. Someone PLEASE help me!!! How do I get those pics back???
It’s great that you haven’t formatted the card. This could make things pretty difficult. Fortunately there isn't an issue with the card if photos are readable by the camera. Try changing the camera to 'Mass Storage Mode' so that it is read like a hard disk (refer to user manual on how to do this). Also try an SD to USB adapter. If none of these work I would try another computer. There are programs that can recover the data from an SD card if all else fails but you may have to pay for them.
I would double check that the read only switch on the side of the sd card is turned off
another option, copy files from the card via DOS.
go to run (or search bar in start menu in vista/7) and type cmd. Then type the following...
XCOPY E:* C:backup
then hit enter
*replace 'E' with the letter of the camera / sd card and 'C'
with the letter of your main hard drive. Make sure you create a folder in your main hard drive called 'backup' first
