How do you choose the best microscope? I'm a novice hobbyist with a modest budget.?
Is 1000x magnification a must? Digital sounds interesting. Monocular vs. binocular? How much does price play a part in the microscoe (for instance a $99 vs $400 vs. $2000)? It would be for home use, basically to satisfy my curiosity...I find myself constantly using a magnifying glass(!) to try and look at minscule things. Maybe I watch too much CSI....
It depends on what you want to see with your microscope. 1000x is good for looking INSIDE CELLS, but 10x is probably too much for looking at things in the physical world that you know. The things you see on CSI are usually about 10-to-30x. If someone gives you a better answer, then take their advice, but you can teach yourself a lot about this on eBay, believe it or not. The auctions all have sample images and you can get an idea about the applications for various magnifications.
