equalizer, receiver, amplifier, subwoofer, speakers, TV and VCR connection?

my brother gave these all to me and i don't how to connect all together.

If you can post the manufacturer and model number of each device, I can give you a much more complete answer, but here is what I assume you will need to do.

I am not sure what the amplifier is used for since the receiver should have a built-in amplifier (maybe it is for the subwoofer?)

The equalizer will probably need to be connected via a "tape monitor loop" connection. There will be two sets of RCA cables to connect for this. The EQ (equalizer) will have an "Input" and "Output" connection. Typically you connect the "Input" connection to the "Output" connection for the tape monitor on the receiver. The "Output" on the EQ would connect to the "Input" connection for the tape monitor.

The speakers should connect directly to the receiver. The receiver probably has 2 sets of speaker outputs for the main speakers. Look for the "A" speaker outputs. There will be a red and black pair of connectors for each channel (left and right). Run speaker wire from each speaker to its appropriate channel. Connect the wires to the red and black connectors. Make sure to use the same wire on each color like you have it connected on the speaker side.

As far as the subwoofer goes the connection varies greatly depending on your equipment. Most newer systems have a subwoofer output that uses an RCA connection. Run a cable from this to the subwoofer. If the subwoofer does not have this type of connections, then it probably does not have a built-in amplifier. If this is the case, then the amplifier you have is probably meant to power the subwoofer. Look for an RCA signal input on the amplifier and connect it to the subwoofer output on the receiver. There should also be speaker output connections on the amplifier to connect to the subwoofer. Connect these as well using speaker wire much like you did for the receiver speaker connections.

This information may be completely irrelevant depending on your equipment. I tried to think of the most common equipment you could have. Again, if you would'nt mind replying with the make and model information I would be able to give you much better instructions.
