vintage stereo amp problem?
hey i have a pioneer sa-6500 ii stereo you can see a pic at http://www.silverpioneer.netfirms.com/integrated-amps.htm
and im trying to play my turn table but i cant get any sound. the speakers im using are 6 ohm 10 watt speakers and they came off of a cd player thing you can see them here

i have a pre amp on my truntable and every thing. are the speakers too waek? or what? please help
Well it should work in theory. If the amp is working ok as well as the speakers, as the combination should be ok, then you ether have a miss match of cartridge to phono preamp or you don't have power going to the phono preamp. First the phono preamp must be powered, then you must have the right type of cartridge going to the right type of phono preamp. phono preamp first boosts the signal coming from the cartridge and then re-equalizes the signal to a flat response. Records are cut with bass frequency's lower in volume and high frequency's boosted. The phono preamp re-equalizes that signal back to flat. You must also have the right cartridge going into the phono preamp. Moving magnet to a moving magnet phonostage and moving coil to ether a moving magnet(only if its a high output moving coil cartridge) or moving coil phono preamp.
